Background:
Boop
Personality:
As it was put by Princess Allura: "The Quintessence of the pilot is mirrored in his Lion." Keith, the pilot of the Red Lion, certainly embodies a lot of it's traits. Described simply as the most agile of lions, but temperamental and unstable, and who's trust and respect must be earned, who must be honed by someone who relies on instinct, we get a pretty good primer on Keith.
Keith at first glance comes off as calm, collected, maybe even cold or stoic. That's true ...to a point. Keith is one of the quieter members of the team. He tends to be more withdrawn from conversation, speaking only when it's particularly important or when his input is needed (Or to put Lance in his place, as the case often is). He doesn't embellish things and he cuts right to the point. He's pragmatic, and though he does have the best intentions in mind, he tends to focus on the bigger picture which has unfortunately gotten him marked as cold and unfeeling. When the team was discussing the rescue of the Princess from Emperor Zarkon, Keith was the one to bring up not going after her since because delivering Voltron (their giant robot) right into the hands of the ruler of the Universe sounded like a pretty bad idea. Which, while that had merit, was still insinuating leaving a team member behind and was not regarded well by the rest of the team.
For as collected as he appears, though, Keith also has the shortest temper and is by far the most impulsive. When he's egged on, he's a ball of righteous fury who refuses to step down. He relies on his instincts and his gut with a stab first and ask later mentality. He's also not afraid to jump into a fight that's way above his class, if he thinks for a single second he could come out on top and he's more than willing to throw himself into harms way if it means helping someone he trusts or respects. It's usually up to other members of the team to reign him in before he kicks down a door guns blazing. To his benefit, he is someone who is hard to keep down and he will fight until he is literally taken out. He's scrappy and stubborn and he does not like being told he can't do something. However, being headstrong is not always the answer and it usually takes someone else to remind him of that.
Along that vein, Keith in general is just not someone who works well being told what to do. He's very much portrayed as a lone wolf from the start and he's shown to have poor dealings with authority. Unless you earn his respect, he won't give you the time of day. But if you do earn his respect, he'll follow you into hell, no questions asked. Sadly, because he's so used to following the beat of his own drum, when he does want to come out of that lonely corner in the back of the room, he's ...pretty awkward. He's not really great at catching social cues, and he's terrible at understanding jokes. He tends to think very literally, overall. However, it's very clear that despite the solitary part of him that's used to keeping his distance from others he does want to make friends. It's just that when that sort of effort gets tossed in his face, he gets flustered and lashes back.
Finally, you will not find a more committed person than Keith. Once he's set his mind on something, he follows until the end. When he was enlisted in Galaxy Garrison, he was the best pilot of his class. When he'd been kicked out of the Garrison and stripped of his previous goal, he latched onto finding the source of the weird energy in the desert and spent a year wandering and living in a shack just so he could hunt it down. So naturally, when he became a part of Team Voltron, Keith threw everything he had into it. The team, the fight against Zarkon, there is nothing more important to him than that. Almost to the point that he is a little too fixated on it. He is the one to straight up yell at Pidge for wanting to leave the team to find her family, for putting their lives above the lives of everyone in the universe (A Valid point but not one to be made while yelling). He also went after Zarkon and fought him one-on-one because he saw a chance to end the war and took it, even if Zarkon was leagues above him in power and literally everyone else was telling him not to fucking do it.
Keith is, all in all, a mess of a teenager. He's someone who's grown up on his own, who's used to fighting his way through life. As such, he's cold, harsh, volatile with a rebellious streak a mile wide. However, despite all that, you won't find anyone more loyal and willing to give their all for the greater good. Beneath that fiery exterior is someone who is desperate for his place in the world and he's only just begun to carve it out.
Abilities:
Keith (as far as we know) is basically a normal human. What we know about him are two things: He's an ace pilot. He can navigate an asteroid belt effortlessly, and he was noted as best in his class at the Garrison before getting kicked out. Put him behind the wheel of something that flies and he will fucking fly it for you.
Second, he's a fighter. Whether its from his brief stint at the Garrison or he's just naturally gifted in combat, Keith is one of the most seamless in a fight, second only to Shiro. This includes hand-to-hand combat as well as skills with a sword.
He's naturally very resourceful. We don't know if he's ever had sword training before but he sure did pick one up and start swinging it like he knew what he was doing from the get go.
Alignment: Sosyne because nothing quite sticks out like Anger and Calm for him. On top of the obviousness of him having some anger issues I feel like him finding his center is going to be a major point for his character arc in the series.
